Earlier this week, the nominations for the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced, and ‘Damages’ was featured prominently on the ballot. Although the show did not receive a ‘Best Drama Series’ nod, nearly all of it’s actors were rewarded with a nomination for their fantastic work in season three:
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife)
Mariska Hargitay (Special Victims Unit)
GLENN CLOSE (DAMAGES)
Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)
January Jones (Mad Men)
Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights)
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Sharon Gless (Burn Notice)
Christine Baranski (The Good Wife)
Christina Hendricks (Mad Men)
ROSE BYRNE (DAMAGES)
Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife)
Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men)
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
John Slattery (Mad Men)
Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad)
MARTIN SHORT (DAMAGES)
Terry O’ Quinn (Lost)
Michael Emerson (Lost)
Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age)
Lily Tomlin and Ted Danson were also nominated for their guest roles in season three. I really wish Tate Donovan could have found his way onto the ballot. He had always done a fine job with Tom Shayes in the past, but this season he was phenomenal. Here’s what Glennie and Rose had to say about their nominations:
Glenn Close:
“I congratulate all my fabulous category sisters, Rosie-my partner in crime-and Lily, Marty and Ted, who are brilliant. I’m very happy to have five of us [nominated]. To me, that’s a huge accomplishment on our part and a tribute to the writing. I’m very proud of that. I wouldn’t be here if not for the words they put into my mouth. They kept me engaged. I think what scared me most about doing a series was that I’d get bored… I have to say every season has been more and more of an exploration.”
Rose Byrne:
“I’m very flattered the Academy has recognized my performance. Being a part of “Damages” has been such a wonderful gift. I’m grateful to Glenn, Tate, KZK, FX, Sony, the writers and all my fellow cast mates for their support. I have loved every minute of playing ‘Ellen Parsons’ and there’s no one else I’d rather spar with than the incomparable Glenn Close.”
The 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards will air Sunday, August 29th.
